Chihuahua and Pig, Best Friends, Were Rescued Together in Arizona

The Arizona Humane Society placed an unlikely pair of animal companions, a Chihuahua, and a pig, together at Better Piggies Rescue.

Chihuahua and pig have a strong bond and are inseparable.

According to a statement from the Arizona Humane Society (AHS), Timon, a chihuahua, and Pumbaa, a pig, were rescued earlier this month after their previous owner was arrested on unrelated charges.

While it is generally not advised for dogs and pigs to cohabitate, Timon and Pumbaa’s friendship is certainly unique.

“Immediately, AHS staff saw just how strong of a bond these two have, especially when Pumbaa is kind enough to allow Timon to hitch a ride on his back from time to time,” AHS said.

The Arizona Humane Society sought assistance from Better Piggies Rescue to provide medical attention to Pumbaa. Despite being unable to manage Pumbaa’s needs, the Arizona shelter reached out to Better Piggies Rescue for help, ensuring that both Pumbaa and Timon had a safe place to call home and receive care without slipping through the cracks.

Better Piggies Rescue announced on their Facebook page on May 23 that Timon and Pumbaa, the inseparable chihuahua and pig duo, have found their forever home. The organization plans to make Pumbaa a long-term ambassador since he has acclimated so well to the sanctuary’s resident pigs, and often makes himself comfortable at the front of the facility.

Better Piggies Rescue posted on social media, “he’s a natural greeter and can’t wait for everyone to meet him when we start up tours in September. Plus, he needs to be near his best friend, Timon, who we are working with to become a sanctuary dog.”

Facebook users were also excited and happy due to Timon and Pumba are with the AHS field team. “Happy tears to see it was possible…thank you always for being there when we need outlets for these kiddos”.

Some individuals considered the bond between the two animals to be a valuable gift and suggested that Timon and Pumbaa could serve as ambassadors for Pawsitive Friendships, while others shared the same sentiment.

Better Piggies Rescue was established in 2017 near Cave Creek, Arizona. It is one of the only sanctuaries dedicated to pigs in Arizona, according to AHS’ release.
