Meet Milly, the Brave Survivor of Brain Surgery, Now Enjoying a Wonderful Life
Get ready to meet a unique cat named Milly, who has been on a remarkable journey to find joy.
Milly was born with some special health challenges: a large head (hydrocephalus), a different front leg (radial aplasia), and a slight overbite. She earned the nickname ‘Helmet Queen’ because she requires a special helmet and a soft, cushioned space to stay safe.
Nevertheless, Milly is the most affectionate and cuddly cat you’ll ever encounter.
Caroline, Milly’s foster mom, adores her, often mentioning how Milly is a kitty brimming with love and joy. Milly’s delightful personality has the power to bring happiness to everyone she meets.
“I wish everyone could meet Milly! She’s so special, and she literally radiates love and joy. She loves everyone and wears her heart on her sleeve,” shared Caroline.
Her story began when she was given away for free at only two months old, but her first family soon realized she needed extra attention. That’s when she was taken in by Baby Kitten Rescue, where she met her loving foster mom.
Many kittens with health challenges like hers face tough times, but Milly is a determined fighter.
She found a home with caregivers who had taken care of a cat named Otter before, and Otter had overcome similar challenges with successful surgery while wearing a helmet. Much like Otter, Milly earned the title of ‘Helmet Queen’.
Milly faced a challenge because the soft spot on her skull, called the fontanelle, was closed, causing extra fluid pressure in her brain. To address her special situation, she needed a risky and specialized operation, which was quite expensive.
Everyone who met Milly instantly fell in love with her and was eager to assist her, no matter the cost.
The Baby Kitten Rescue team was committed to giving her a chance at a happy, healthy life, emphasizing that her life was important and that she deserved an opportunity to live fully.
“This is by far the most expensive surgery we’ve ever provided. But Milly is worth it. Her life matters. And she has the chance to live a full, healthy, and happy life if she gets this surgery! So we are going to give her that chance.”
And you know what? The challenging brain surgery went well! Thanks to the talented vet team, Milly came out of it smoothly, achieving an amazing triumph. The team is thrilled for cats like Milly who now have a better chance to overcome hydrocephalus.
“I’m SO grateful Milly had the opportunity to receive this surgery!!! Up until very recently, hydrocephalus was a death sentence for cats and dogs. But thanks to progressive veterinarians like Dr. O’Neill at Metropolitan Animal Specialty Hospital, kitties like Milly now have the chance at living a full, healthy, and happy life with shunt surgery!”
However, her story didn’t conclude after the surgery.
Milly had a lengthy and gradual recovery ahead of her. Yet, she showed remarkable strength, consistently impressing everyone with her improvement. The medications that assisted in handling her hydrocephalus were slowly decreased after the surgery.
Following this transformative procedure, Milly not only gained a new lease on life but also discovered her permanent home with a wonderful, caring couple. Now, she reigns as the queen of her domain, enjoying all the love and attention she deserves.

“Milly was adopted by the most amazing couple. She will be the queen of her home, like she wants and deserves. Her mommy & daddy work from home most of the time, so she will get all the snuggles and attention she could ever want.”
