Older Cat Waits in ‘Free’ Basket, Hoping for a Loving Home Forever
Animals in shelters have unique ways of catching attention, hoping someone will come and adopt them. Maybe you recall the dog from our last story, always extending a paw to anyone passing by, or the cat that enjoys sitting on her cage door, eager to find her forever family.
Today, there’s a cute cat grabbing attention in his own special way. He’s settled comfortably in the “Free” basket, acting like a star, hoping someone will spot him and give him a forever home full of love.
Bud, a gentle 14-year-old cat, ended up at the Putnam Humane Society last summer when his owner lost their home and couldn’t keep him. While he first felt lost without his owner, Bud has since settled into shelter life.
Michele Dugan, who leads the Putnam Humane Society, says Bud is a laid-back cat who enjoys affection but can be a tad pushy with other cats in the shelter.
“[He’s] easygoing, loves to be pet, but can be a little bossy around the other cats,” he shared.
It’s been a few months since Bud came to the shelter, hoping for a permanent home. But Bud isn’t just waiting around; he’s trying to get noticed.
Lately, shelter workers have seen Bud sitting inside a “free” basket a few times. It’s as if he’s signaling to everyone that he’s looking for a loving family, just like the things in the basket.
“He really is trying hard to get adopted,” Dugan said.
Even though Bud hasn’t found a family yet, he’s not losing hope. He’ll keep sitting in that basket, waiting for someone to see him and decide to take him home.
“Bud would fit in just about anywhere, but being 14, he really needs to be the center of your attention and be your one and only,” Dugan said.
Dugan thinks Bud will find a loving home where he’s the main attraction soon. But for the time being, Bud will keep cozying up in the “free” basket, hoping the right person comes along to take him home.
