Runner Pauses Chicago Marathon to Save Little Kitten
During the Chicago Marathon, runner Sarah Bohan did something extraordinary. Not only was she running to support PAWS Chicago, an animal rescue nonprofit, but she also turned into a hero by rescuing a little furry friend in distress. She truly saved a furry life!
As Sarah Bohan approached the last part of the 26.2-mile race, aiming for her best personal marathon time, something caught her eye.
While running along the left side of the road near the sidewalk, she entered a tunnel and saw a little fluffy cat crying and frightened on the sidewalk. This unexpected moment led to a touching rescue during a big sporting event.
In a remarkable move, Sarah Bohan decided to pause her race to help the small kitten, even though she knew that taking a short break might impact her record time.
“I didn’t even think twice,” Bohan said. “I scooped up the cat.”
After that, Bohan’s main focus was the scared kitten’s safety. She reduced her speed to a walk to ensure the little one wouldn’t be bumped around.
“That cat became my responsibility,” she said. “I needed to give it the love it deserved.” Bohan walked for about a mile, holding the kitten in her arms. Eventually, she got the attention of other animal-loving people in the crowd, and they offered to give the little cat a caring home.
“I didn’t know them,” Bohan said. “They just came forward and said they have cats of their own and will give this little baby love. I trusted them based on our very brief interaction.”
Bohan, relying on the shared love for animals with the strangers, kept going towards the finish line. She had taken an unplanned but heartwarming break during the marathon.
After Sarah Bohan’s kind act in the Chicago Marathon, her care for the kitten went beyond the race.
Although she didn’t share contact details with the people offering to adopt the kitten, PAWS Chicago gave a heartening update, revealing that a new owner had been found.
“Adopter found!” the group wrote. “We hear [the kitten] is settling into his new home and doing great!”
Bohan’s caring deeds not only made sure the scared kitten was okay but also resulted in a happy ending as the little cat discovered a loving home.
