Playful Baby Gorilla Likes Playing, But His Grumpy Gorilla Dad Seems Unamused and Tells Him “Stop Monkeying Around”

Playful Baby Gorilla Likes Playing, But His Grumpy Gorilla Dad Seems Unamused and Tells Him "Stop Monkeying Around"

Parents often find it challenging to keep up with their kids, particularly when they’re exhausted after a long day at work, and their high-energy antics can quickly drain the little energy they have left. Surprisingly, animals also experience similar family dynamics, as we’ll see with the gorilla Oumbi, who had to deal with his mischievous son’s pranks.

Oumbi, a silver-back western lowland gorilla, has been a resident of Twycross Zoo for a long time, and despite his grumpy appearance, he is a gentle and caring father to his 10-year-old son, Lope.

Lope, the mischievous 10-year-old gorilla at Twycross Zoo, enjoys playing around with his family, especially with his stern father, Oumbi, who isn’t always in the mood for his antics but tries to engage with him nonetheless.

“Keepers occasionally see him playing with Lope, but once he’s been caught he immediately stops and acts like the big boss again!!” told the Twycross Zoo.

On a lovely morning, Oumbi just wanted to relax, but his energetic son Lope had other plans. Lope did everything in his power to get his dad to play with him, even though Oumbi just wanted a quiet moment.

While Oumbi was taking a well-deserved break in a pavilion, Lope began a series of playful antics. He snatched his dad’s wood shavings and put them on his own head, prancing around like a clown and jumping up and down.

Lope continued his mischievous behavior by beating his chest and even hitting his father through the fence in an attempt to distract him. However, Oumbi, being a calm and patient father, did not react to Lope’s antics and continued to rest peacefully.

After his initial attempts failed, Lope came up with a new strategy. The determined son refused to give up and believed there had to be another way to rouse his father from his slumber. So he began to prance around his dad, acting as silly as possible in an attempt to catch his attention.

While executing his plan, Lope kept a close eye on Oumbi’s face through the fence and was aware that his father was extremely annoyed, but he persisted in playing pranks on him.

Eventually, Oumbi grew so weary of his son’s antics that he finally gave in and put some wood shavings on his own head, matching Lope’s silly behavior.

His annoying face was like “Yeah yeah, here you go kid, satisfied?”.

Lope’s mischievousness didn’t stop there as he attempted to get Oumbi to play peek-a-boo with him, despite his father’s obvious annoyance with the game.

Completely exhausted, the surly father even tossed a nearby branch aside in frustration.

How irritated Oumbi was can be seen now!
