Two years ago, Wendy Broom’s daughter woke her up with an urgent request. A little, hairless puppy was wandering aimlessly on the road close to their home, clearly abandoned. The poor creature was in a pitiful condition, showing visible wounds, being severely underweight, and in dire need of assistance. Without any delay, Broom sprang into action.

The family swiftly arranged a snug box with a cozy blanket, and they observed as the puppy immediately sought solace, curling up inside. Driven by a strong determination to give her a chance to fight, they hurriedly took her to the vet for a comprehensive examination.

The veterinarian delivered a discouraging diagnosis—Taylor, as the puppy was named, suffered from severe mange, multiple worm infestations, and a skin infection that demanded immediate treatment. Her recovery called for special baths with medication, antibiotics, and weeks of attentive care. Furthermore, Taylor had an issue with her front leg, which required a splint and cast for a duration of two weeks.

As Taylor underwent her treatments, her behavior experienced an astonishing change. At first, she remained quiet in Broom’s home, but she soon realized that she was in a safe place, embraced by love and support. Over time, a lively and playful personality blossomed within her, captivating the hearts of her newly found family.

“Within a couple days, her whole personality started changing,” Broom told the Dodo, an animal channel. “She started being more active, and she started to get super playful.”

As Taylor’s leg healed, her fur regrew, and her deworming treatment came to an end, she wholeheartedly embraced life as a happy and typical puppy. Luckily, she found friendship among a spirited group of other dogs who adored having her around.

When Taylor isn’t playing and having fun with her furry siblings, she remains loyal and close to her mom. Broom, completely charmed by her lively and rescued pup, treasures the unique connection they have. Taylor’s playful spirit and infectious enthusiasm for life bring joy to Broom’s days, filling them with countless smiles.

Yet, Taylor does have two sworn enemies: gophers and the family’s golf cart. Broom explained, “Her biggest enemy is the golf cart,” Broom said. “She thinks she needs to protect us from it.”

Reflecting on their journey together, Broom believes that Taylor’s arrival was no coincidence. “I really believe she came to us for a reason,” Broom said. “We rescued her, but I also think she was sent to us to help us be able to transition because our senior dog was getting older. He passed last week, and he was the one that taught her how to be a dog.”

These Pics Are Art and the Artists Are Insects

Flying insects move so quickly that they are hard to follow, but new technology and some smart ideas have helped Spanish photographer Xavi Bou do just that. After spending 10 years focusing on birds in flight for his Ornithographies project, he turned his attention to insects.

For Entomographies, he uses high-speed video footage taken by Adrian Smith, an insect expert at North Carolina State University, to study and record how insects move. Bou then picks multiple frames and combines them into single images that show the fast movements of one or more insects through space and time.

With Smith’s help, Bou has captured the aerial tricks of wasps, the jumps of leafhoppers, and the fluttering of butterflies in amazing detail. He hopes that by doing this, he can make people more aware of the decline in important insect populations around the world.
