Rescuers Successfully Save Feral Cat Who Avoided Humans for Many Years

Rescuers Successfully Save Feral Cat Who Avoided Humans for Many Years

Each year in the USA, around 3.2 million cats end up in shelters, but only about 2.1 million find new homes through adoption. Sadly, the remaining cats have to endure loneliness and tough conditions without love. Many of them become street cats, facing dangers and illnesses. Thankfully, caring animal organizations step in to protect and rescue these vulnerable creatures, offering them a chance for a fresh start and a forever home. Today, we have a heartwarming story of a little cat who once struggled on the streets. Fortunately, he had the opportunity to meet a fantastic rescue team, and thanks to their kindness and determination, he was set on a path to a brighter future.

During a TNR mission on the streets of Boston, members of Boston’s Forgotten Felines encountered a feral cat in a pitiful state. This little cat had endured beatings and lived in constant fear. Despite their original plan to neuter him and return him to his feral colony, they couldn’t ignore his poor condition and knew they had to help him.

“Coconut was a mess. He had URI, UTI, goopy eyes and had something covering his tail that looked like oil. Not to mention ear mites and chronic diarrhea along with a bad back leg,” Joni Nelson founder of Boston’s Forgotten Felines said. “But it was his nasty attitude that made him hard to like. The pathetic thing couldn’t go back to his colony in the shape he was in.”

When they first brought him back to the shelter, he was extremely grumpy and wouldn’t let anyone get close to him, so they placed him in a cage. Feeding and cleaning his cage became very difficult because the cat would lash out whenever they tried to open the door.

After receiving daily medications, his infections started to improve, but it still took some time before Coconut decided to calm down a bit. “I could go in and clean his box and put down food without him coming at me, but he still hissed whenever anyone walked by his cage,” Nelson said. “Still, he never lifted his head all the way, always looking down. He never bothered to clean himself, and I sure couldn’t touch him to clean out his eyes. I knew for sure he couldn’t go back on the streets to live like that!”

Despite the difficulties, Nelson didn’t give up on Coconut. Then, one day, a glimmer of hope appeared.

Coconut allowed his human caregiver to touch his head for a brief moment, which filled Nelson with gratitude. This small act showed that the cat was starting to change for the better. As Nelson grew closer to Coconut, she gradually uncovered the reasons behind his challenging life as a feral cat.

“It took two very deep bites from him to realize he was deaf and could only see shadows. He was frightened and no one knows the torture he went through living on the streets for so long in that condition.” Nelson said.

After that, Coconut was moved to another foster home, and he thrived there. “I admit I was very worried he would go back to being frightened and mean with strangers, but after just one night of hiding, he came out from under the bed in his new foster home,” Nelson said.

It’s hard to believe that Coconut is the same cat they rescued a year ago. He has come such a long way, and it’s all thanks to the love and care he received. We are incredibly grateful for his transformation.

After Losing Her Babies, A Stray Pitbull Finds Solace In Adopting Raisin, An Orphan Puppy

Animal Control personnel discovered a stray dog pacing the streets of York, South Carolina. That night was really chilly. The moment the cops realized Daya was expecting, they took her to a shelter. As soon as they agreed to foster her, Halfway Rescue staff members took custody of her.

Medical inspection revealed the dog had issues and required an immediate operation. Not only were her unborn children at risk, but also her life. Daya lost her children tragically, yet she was fortunate to live. She appeared dejected and unhappy as if her heart had been shattered.
